Find Stories of Extension's Helene Recovery Efforts

When Hurricane Helene tore through western North Carolina last fall, Extension experts from across the state plunged themselves into local recovery efforts. More than six months removed from the worst natural disaster in the state's history, our people remain committed to helping WNC farmers, families and communities rebuild and prepare for what’s next.

Through a series of stories, we strive to capture their selfless acts of service, highlight Extension's ongoing dedication and value to our communities, and explore the challenges that remain to build a stronger, more resilient WNC.
